Informatics FAQ

How do I login to the portal?
Many functions of the portal require users to login to access more detailed information. Much of this information is secured and made only available to the user, collaborative group or EDRN community depending on the EDRN data sharing policies. The EDRN DMCC provides each user a secure username and password. This should be used to login to the portal at by clicking or tapping "Log In" (upper right).

If you do not have your username or password, please use the EDRN Secure Site Application to request one.

What are the EDRN data sharing policies?

The data sharing policies of EDRN are set by the EDRN Informatics and Data Sharing Subcommittee. These policies are approved by the EDRN Steering Committee.

How do I share my scientific data sets within the EDRN?

The EDRN has developed the Laboratory Catalog and Archive Service (LabCAS) as a mechanism to allow for distributing data generated during EDRN biomarker studies. This application provides a secure means to share data both wiithin and outside the EDRN research community. If you would like to have your data hosted on LabCAS, follow the New Data Submission Procedure.

What is FAIR?

FAIR is a set of guiding principles for scientific data management and stewardship. It stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. The goal of FAIR is to make data easier for both humans and machines to discover, use, and combine with other data.

Within EDRN, FAIR principles guide how biomarker research data are collected, curated, and shared through Laboratory Catalog and Archive Service (LabCAS) and related tools. By following FAIR, EDRN ensures that data contributed by investigators are consistent, high-quality, and maximally useful to the entire research community.

For more details, see the EDRN FAIR Data Submission Guidance

What are the EDRN CDEs?
The EDRN provides a standard set of data elements, called Common Data Elements (CDEs), that are used to structure forms and build systems. CDEs enable EDRN members to capture and collect their research data in a consistent way, helping to ensure that the data are FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). These data elements are used in a variety of informatics applications and have been part of EDRN since its inception. If you have questions about the CDEs, contact the Informatics Center.

How do I get access to Biomarkers?

Biomarkers from EDRN studies are captured and cataloged within the EDRN Biomarker Database. The biomarkers are curated and initially set to a private state until the information is reviewed by the investigator and the EDRN collaborative group. The content includes the information defined by the EDRN and NCI community.

How do I share my Biomarkers?

If your biomarker information is not captured or is incomplete, use the biomarker submission form. Analysts on the EDRN biocuration team (which includes the Dartmouth Medical School) will review the data and contact you for further information.

What protocols are being studied within the EDRN?

The EDRN captures protocols that are being studied by the investigators that are part of the EDRN research community. These protocols include the team projects that are currently under development.

What if my protocols are missing?

If you have protocols that you would like included, please contact the EDRN Data Management and Coordinating Center (DMCC) who can help coordinate curation of that information.

What Publications Appear on the Portal?

The publications listed on the EDRN portal represent research relevant  to the consortium. These publications are curated by EDRN investigators through the DMCC "secure" site and include both results from EDRN-funded studies and additional publications relevant to biomarkers.

Investigators can update publications from EDRN-funded research appearing on this site—including adding new ones and removing old ones—through the secure site's publications manager.
